On 7 January 2024, in the Mong Yaw village tract of the Lashio township (Lashio district, Shan-North state), the Myanmar military conducted an airstrike with a scout plane and two fighter jets and dropped three bombs around 7:30 pm without an armed clash occurring. A 50-year-old woman, a 13-year-old boy, and three 12-year-old girls were killed and another local was injured and around 30 houses were destroyed in the Mong Yaw market ward. RFA reported 5 fatalities while Shan Herald Agency for News reported there were 4 fatalities. Fatalities coded 4 as the lowest estimate.
