On 7 January 2024, in Kawt War Le village (Kawkareik township, Kawkareik district, Kayin state), the Myanmar military (LIB-545) fired artillery rounds into the village at around 11:45 am. Artillery shells struck the Aye Chan Thar Yar Taw Ya monastery. Two nuns, aged 13 and 16, sustained injuries. A two-story building was also damaged.
