On 7 January 2024, unknown armed assailants threw an hand grenade into the house of the Taliban's district education chief (mentioned as officer) in Mya Sahib village of Hesarak district, Nangarhar, leaving four of his daughters killed while his wife, son and the head of education sustained injuries. Some reports indicated that the head of education escaped unharmed. The motive remained unknown.
