On Friday afternoon 22nd May the inhabitants of Magpie Road suddenly found fire engines and police cars outside their houses. They were told by the police to stay indoors because of the discovery of a suspected unexploded wartime hand Grenade on the side of the road, apparently dropped by a Council refuse lorry. Until the device had been dealt with by an army bomb disposal unit no-one was allowed into the street.
