On 5 January 2024, an 8-year-old tribal girl and her mother were severely injured in an IED explosion suspectedly planted by CPI (Maoist) cadres near Cherpal village (Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh). The incident took place when the victims were returning from the weekly market and the child stepped on the pressure IED.
