On 15 August 2023, near Myay Ne village of Monywa township (Monywa district, Sagaing region), an unidentified armed group carried out a mine attack against the vehicle carrying prisoners near the village. The mine explosion killed two people, including a 33-year-old political prisoner and a driver. The deceased prisoner, a medical doctor, was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for joining the civil disobedience movement (CDM). The mine attack came while about 100 prisoners were transferred from Monywa prison to Mandalay's Obo prison.
