On 16 August 2023, a barangay chairperson was killed during the explosion of an improvised bomb planted by unidentified assailants in Barangay Ganta (Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao del Sur, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao). A barangay councilor and a civilian were also wounded. Other barangay officials who were walking with the casualties when the explosion happened were unscathed. Authorities suspect that the chairperson was the target, which can be connected to the 17 April killing of his brother, who was a municipal councilor.
