DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A child was killed on Friday and another was wounded in two separate landmine blasts in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
A local source told North Press that Luay al-Ahmad, 7, was killed in a landmine explosion while he was grazing his sheep in the desert on the outskirts of the village of al-Masrab in the west of Deir ez-Zor.
In another incident, a local source said a 9-year-old boy by the name of Ahmad Ibrahim was injured by shrapnel from a landmine explosion near his house in the village of Abu Hassan in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The child was transferred to al-Kaysoum Hospital in the city of Hajin for treatment. The child is in good condition, the source said citing a doctor at the hospital.
Ibrahim is originally from the town of al-Suwar in the north of Deir ez-Zor and currently resides with his family in Abu Hasan.
War remnants have killed and injured hundreds of people throughout Syria during 2023, with the majority being children.
On Jan. 1, four children were injured in a landmine blast in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
