On 30 December 2023, in Taung Maw village (Kawlin township, Kawlin district, Sagaing region), two artillery shells fired by the Wuntho-based Myanmar military (IB-120) landed in the village at around 9 pm. A 43-year-old female teacher died from a heart attack caused by the shelling, and her husband along with another woman sustained injuries. Additionally, two houses were damaged. Another source, RFA, reported that a 20-year-old woman, a 30-year-old woman, a 40-year-old man, and a 60-year-old man were injured and a house was also destroyed.
