On 4 January 2024, an US drone strike killed the Harakat Nujaba deputy commander for Baghdad Belt Operations Abu Taqwa and 2 fighters in Baghdad city. The drone strike was launched from Ain Assad Air Base. The strike hit the deputy's car while he was arriving at the Popular Mobilization Forces logistics base near Palestine Street in Baghdad - 9 Nissan. The US accused Nujaba of conducting attacks against US forces in Iraq. The blast resulted in 3 fatalities and injured 6.
