Projectile event in Shan-North, Kyaukme area, Myanmar on Sat 23rd December 2023

On 23 December 2023, in Namtu town (Namtu township, Kyaukme district, Shan-North state), the Myanmar military (LIB-324) fired artillery rounds and machine guns indiscriminately into the town from around 5 am until 10 am. A six-year-old child and a 20-year-old man sustained injuries from the gunshots. On the same day, artillery shells fired by the military landed in Ward 9 and Ward 3, injuring four locals and damaging a mosque in Ward 9. According to Myanmar Pressphoto Agency, three family members of Ward 9 were killed by artillery shells, a 9-year old was killed according to DVB and Irrawaddy while other sources (Shan Herald Agency for News, Shwe Phee Myay News Agency and Khit Thit Media) reported no fatalities.
