On 28 December 2023, in Kawlin town (Kawlin township, Kawlin district, Sagaing region), the Myanmar military IB-111 and LIB-120 fired howitzer cannons indiscriminately at 10:30 am, 10:35 am, 11 am and 11:35 am without an armed clash occurring, fell into the town and killed a 66-year-old man, a 2-year-old and 8-year-old boy. A woman who was a mother of two boys and a monk was also injured. The artillery strike damaged a monastery and three houses.
