On 17 December 2023, in Kanhtauntkyi town (Myebon township, Mrauk-U district, Rakhine state), the military stationed on the Taw Hein Hill fired artillery rounds at around 7:40 pm and some of the rounds landed on the Taung Paing ward and Rakhine Kone ward, hitting and destroying a house. A 33-year-old, a 43-year-old and a 38-year-old were injured. Other sources Karen Information Center News, Radio Free Asia and VOA reported that 4 locals in their 30s were injured and another elderly woman lost his life to a heart attack after hearing the artillery explosions.
