On 18 December 2023, in Taung Kyar Inn village (Kawkareik township, Kawkareik district, Kayin state), the Myanmar military (IB-230 under No.12 Military Operations Command) fired 120mm artillery rounds into the village at around 10:47 am. A 46-year-old woman was killed on the spot by an artillery shell.
