On 11 December 2023, overnight, Al Shabaab threw a hand grenade at Southwest Special Police Forces (SWSPF) who were manning a makeshift vehicle at a checkpoint in the Berdale neighborhood in Baidoa town (Baydhaba, Bay). There were no fatalities. Two police officers and two civilian bystanders were injured in the explosion. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
