Around 11 December 2023 (between 11 - 12 December), Burkinabe National Forces carried out an air and ground operation against suspected JNIM militants between Baraboule and Petegoli (Baraboule, Soum). State media reported that 230 militants were killed, militant bases were destroyed, and a large number of weapons and logistics including motorcycles were destroyed or seized. Reports on social media accompanied by videos and photographs indicated that at least 220 to 300 civilians, mainly women and children, were killed by soldiers and volunteer fighters in Baraboule, Petegoli, Hocoulourou, Hamdalaye, and Fili-Fili (Baraboule, Soum), and Ndidja, Se, and Monde-So (Djibo, Soum), and Bouro, Piladi, and Petega (Nassoumbou, Soum). JNIM released statements and photographs displaying some of the victims (about 100 bodies shown), saying that soldiers and volunteer fighters (VDP) killed more than 218 civilians including women and children, of which 20 were killed in Piladi, and the remaining in Monde-So, Ndidja, Petegoli, Hocoulourou, and Fetopimina. Fatalities are split across 10 events. 22 fatalities coded.
