Russian forces are continuing their efforts to drive Ukrainian units from their positions on the left (east) bank of the River Dnipro in Kherson Oblast and have also attempted to break through the Ukrainian defence in the vicinity of Avdiivka (Donetsk Oblast). Source: General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook, information as of 06:00 on 2 January Quote from the General Staff: "Over the course of the past 24 hours, there were 64 clashes [between Ukrainian and Russian forces]. Enemy forces carried out 1 missile strike and 113 airstrikes and deployed multiple-launch rocket systems 84 times to attack the positions of [Ukrainian] troops and civilian settlements." Details: Within the area of responsibility of the Tavriia Operational-Strategic Group of Forces on the Avdiivka front, Ukrainian forces are continuing to repel the Russian attempts to surround Avdiivka. Ukrainian forces are holding the line and inflicting significant losses on the Russians. Over the course of the past day, Ukraine’s defence forces repelled 4 Russian assaults in the vicinity of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, and Avdiivka, and another 19 assaults in the vicinity of Pervomaiske and Nevelske (Donetsk Oblast). Within the area of responsibility of the Odesa Operational-Strategic Group of Forces on the Kherson front, Ukrainian forces are continuing to undertake operations to expand their foothold [on Dnipro’s left (east) bank]. Despite Russia’s significant losses in the area, its forces are continuing to try to drive the Ukrainian forces out of their positions. Over the course of the past day, the Russians undertook 19 unsuccessful assault operations. Within the area of responsibility of the Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Group of Forces on the Kupiansk front, Ukrainian forces repelled 7 Russian assaults near Synkivka and to the east of Petropavlivka (Kharkiv Oblast), where the Russians made unsuccessful attempts to break through the Ukrainian defences. On the Bakhmut front, Ukrainian forces repelled 10 Russian assaults in the vicinity of Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka and Andriivka (Donetsk Oblast). On the Zaporizhzhia front, Ukraine’s defence forces repelled 3 Russian assaults in the vicinity of Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia Oblast). The General Staff also reported that Ukraine’s defence forces are continuing to undertake active operations in order to inflict personnel and equipment losses on Russian occupation forces and are wearing the Russians out along the entire front. Over the course of the past day, Ukrainian aircraft carried out 13 airstrikes on clusters of Russian military personnel. Units of Ukrainian Rocket Forces and Artillery struck a cluster of Russian military personnel, weapons and equipment, 6 Russian artillery systems, 3 air defence systems, and a command post.
