A cordon was put in place in Dorking (Saturday, January 6) while emergency services responded to a suspected "unexploded ordinance" found by a member of the public on Hampstead Road south of the town centre. Bomb squad specialists were called to the location and concluded the device "did not pose any risk".
A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: “Officers were called at 12.55pm this afternoon (January 6) to Hampstead Road in Dorking after what is suspected to be an unexploded ordinance was found by a member of the public.”
They continued: “A cordon has been put in place and the road is currently closed from the junction with Coldharbour Lane to the junction with Falkland Road and Barrington Road. There may be localised disruption for a short time whilst authorities deal with the device."
In an update after an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team arrived, police added: "Officers from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team attended Hampstead Road to examine the device and concluded it did not pose any risk. The cordon has been lifted, thank you for your patience this afternoon."
