Missile event in Yemen on Sun 3rd December 2023
3rd December 2023
On 3 December 2023, Houthi forces fired ballistic missiles at three commercial ships -- Unity Explorer bulk carrier (IMO: 9726035), Number 9 container ship (IMO: 9340752), and AOM Sophie II bulk carrier (IMO: 9881366) -- in the South Red Sea near the Strait of Bab el Mandeb. The missiles caused damage to all three ships but there was no fatalities or injuries. Houthi forces claimed to have targeted the Unity Explorer and the Number 9 ships with a missile and a drone because they were linked to Israel but did not mention the AOM Sophie II. US forces operating in the area claimed that only missiles struck the ships while all drones were intercepted.
