Unexploded ammunitions found at Sungkyunkwan University for 2nd day

SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Yonhap) -- Unexploded shells and bullets believed to be from the 1950-53 Korean War were discovered at a university campus in Seoul for two consecutive days, officials said Wednesday.

Three unexploded bombs, believed to be mortar shells, were discovered near the entrance of Daeseongjeon, a shrine within Sungkyunkwan University, in Seoul the previous day, followed by eight unexploded bullets Wednesday, according to university and military officials.

Construction workers found them while installing frames to support trees outside the shrine.

Military officials said the unexploded ordnance are believed to have been used during the Korean War, with the possibility to detonate "very low," given the high level of corrosion, according to military officials.

An explosive ordnance disposal team from an Air Force unit, which collected the explosives the previous day, plans to pick up the pieces after undertaking safety measures.
