A 53-year-old Ottawa man was arrested and charged with multiple offences after a “small homemade improvised explosive device” was detonated outside a Centretown home on Sunday evening.

Police said officers responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls around 8:40 p.m. on Sunday reporting a “loud noise and flash” at the home in the 100-block of Arlington Avenue.

Investigators determined the detonation of a small explosive device was the source of the noise and flash, police said. No one was injured.

Police executed a search warrant of the man’s home early Monday morning and arrested the suspect.

Gordon Ahlstrom, 53, was charged with intending to cause an explosion, causing damage and mischief to property.

He was scheduled to appear in court Monday.
