On 20 November 2023, in Kawkareik town (Kawkareik township, Kawkareik district, Kayin state), the military from the IB-97 base camp under the No.12 Operation Command Headquarters fired 81 mm artillery rounds at around 10:30 pm and some of the rounds hit and killed 2 and injured 3 IDP villagers, who were hiding in Myo Taw ward.
