Residents return to homes in Clontarf after WW2 bomb made safe
Residents in Clontarf have been evacuated after the discovery of an unexploded WW2 bomb this evening.
Gardai and Defence Forces EOD experts are currently at the scene in St John's Woods, Clontarf. The alert was raised shortly after 4pm.
Dublin Live understands that a WW2 explosive device was discovered in the grounds of the estate. A bomb disposal truck attended the scene.
The device was made safe and the cordon on the area has lifted. A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí were alerted to a suspicious device in the Clontarf area of Dublin 3 this afternoon, Friday 17th of November 2023.
"A number of premises were evacuated and a cordon put in
place. The Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal has removed
the device from the scene.
"The cordon has since been lifted and
the area declared safe." The Defence Forces also confirmed they have
left the scene and that the device was made safe.
