On 19 August 2019, a series of 6-11 IED explosions occurred in Jalalabad city and the Chimtali area of Khogyani district, Nangarhar, on national independence day. Areas affected in the city include an area near the governor's office and Mokhabarat Square. 17-130 people were wounded; while estimates vary, most were around 50-60.
