DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A Syrian soldier was killed and another was injured on Monday in an IED explosion in a military vehicle of the Syrian government forces in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source within the government forces told North Press that unidentified individuals detonated an IED in a military vehicle of the Division 17 of the government forces near one of their headquarters in the desert of al-Tebni in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The source added that the explosion resulted in the killing of one soldier and the injury of another, in addition to damaging the vehicle.

The Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the countryside of Deir ez-Zor. These areas witness frequent operations by Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells.
