RPG event in Mykolaiv Oblast, Mykolaiv area, Ukraine on Mon 30th October 2023

In Mykolaiv, the police found a man in possession of weapons and ammunition.

Automatic weapons, a grenade launcher and a machine gun, grenade casings and detonators for them, grenade launcher shots, as well as more than 4.7 thousand cartridges of various calibers and other military property were seized by law enforcement officers from the garage of a 48-year-old resident of Mykolaiv. Police investigators informed the perpetrator of the suspicion. The man faces up to seven years in prison.

After receiving operational information that a local resident was storing firearms and military supplies, police investigators, together with operatives of the Mykolaiv district administration and the regional SBU Office, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office, conducted authorized searches of the man's residence and garage premises belonging to him:

"During investigative actions in one of the man's garages, law enforcement officers discovered and seized an RPG-18 grenade launcher, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a Kalashnikov tank machine gun, 11 cases of grenades of the RGO type, seven of the F-1 type, two of the RGN type, 12 detonators for hand grenades of the type UDS, seven UZRGM-2 type, one UZRGM type, 15 VOG-25 40-mm grenade launchers, three RDG-type pyrotechnics, a charge for a mortar round, a 30-mm rocket cartridge, 4,700 cartridges for automatic weapons and other property military assignment, - said Serhii Makhno, the chief of the police of the Mykolayiv region.

According to the participant, he brought all the weapons and ammunition from the places where hostilities took place. 

The law enforcement officers sent everything seized for expert research.

Investigators detained the man in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine and reported suspicion under part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives), which is punishable by imprisonment for up to seven years. 

The court chose a preventive measure for the man in the form of detention without bail. A pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

We remind you that in accordance with Part 3 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, a person is guaranteed exemption from criminal liability if he voluntarily surrenders weapons, ammunition or other weapons that came into his possession in any way.
