On 16 October 2023, in Maw Tone (East) village (Tanintharyi township, Myeik district, Tanintharyi region), the Myanmar military artillery corp - 306 based in Maw Tone village fired artillery shells, hit and killed a 21-year-old Myo Haung villager and injured his wife at around 7 pm. Locals claimed that the military fired artilleries starting from 5 pm without the presence of battle and forced villagers to flee. Some houses and gardens were also damaged. Mizzima reported that three military soldiers who were lying in wait near the military compound were also killed by artillery shelling.
