On 16 October 2023, presumed JNIM militants fired shells at the town of Djibo (Djibo, Soum). One shell fell in a schoolyard, causing visible impacts on classrooms and injuring a pupil who was evacuated to hospital. Another shell fell in a courtyard, shattering part of a house. Another shell fell near the UNHAS helicopter without causing any damage.
