On 17 October 2023, near San Gyi Launt village of Nattalin township (Thayarwady district, Bago-West region), the People's Defense Force - Thayarwady District Battalion-3801 ambushed and launched an attack using landmines against the Myanmar military troops who were arriving in the village. The mine attack killed three military soldiers and injured some elephant handlers. The military troops used elephants to clear mines.
