Hoax event in Wiltshire, Marlborough area, United Kingdom on Wed 4th October 2023

A man has been arrested after a “bomb threat” sparked the evacuation of two Wiltshire GP surgeries. The threat was made to the Kennet and Avon Medical Partnership surgery in Marlborough during the afternoon of Wednesday, October 4. Police rushed to the scene and both the Marlborough surgery and the partnership’s surgery in Pewsey were evacuated as a precaution. Following extensive searches, police determined there was no ongoing threat to the practices and a man has now been arrested on suspicion of making a “hoax bomb threat.” At 4pm, the partnership announced on Facebook that the surgery had been evacuated. A spokesperson said: “Unfortunately it has been necessary to evacuate the Marlborough and the Pewsey surgeries. “If you have an appointment in the next hour or so, please don’t make the journey to either site. “The telephones will not be answered. Many apologies. Thank you for your patience.” Shortly after 6pm another statement was made confirming the surgeries had reopened and staff had “safely” returned to the buildings. As a result of the day’s events the planned vaccination clinic at the Marlborough surgery has been cancelled. Staff will call those with an appointment to rearrange once alternatives slots are available.
