On 4 October 2023, AQAP militants targeted with an IED an STC Security Belt convoy in Qarn Ashal (coded to Al Qarn) (Mudiyah, Abyan) killing the Security Belt commander of the Shuqrah Sector -- Salim Salan -- and injuring 8 others who were in the same convoy. Another source claimed that the explosion took place in the road linking Awrumah Junction and Qarn Amarim.
