A resident in a Welsh village got a shock when they discovered an unexploded bomb while they were out gardening. The explosive a mortar bomb was found at a property in Mill Street, Tonyrefail, Rhondda Cynon Taf, on Friday, September 8. The discovery prompted a major emergency services response with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, South Wales Police, and the Army all attending to safely remove the device. It was later destroyed by a controlled detonation in a neighbouring field. A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police were called to reports of a discovered unexploded ordnance item on Mill Street, Tonyrefail, on Friday, September 8. Appropriate cordons were put in place while specialist units attended to deal with it. "The item, a mortar bomb, was safely removed and disposed of by a controlled explosion in a neighbouring field. No-one was injured during this incident."
