On 11 September 2023, presumed JNIM militants fired three mortar shells at the MINUSMA camp in Timbuktu (Tombouctou, Tombouctou). Two shells fell at the MINUSMA camp and one at Timbuktu Airport. The shelling caused material damages. There were no casualties. UNHAS and Sky Mali suspended their flights to and from Timbuktu as a result of the shelling. JNIM claimed responsibility.
