On 4 September 2023, in Nyaung-U town (Nyaung-U township, Nyaung-U district, Mandalay region), a combined force of the Bagan Nyaung-U Special Task Force and the Pakokku Special Task Force attacked a Double Cab military vehicle patrolling in town to provide security to a football game at around 3:30 pm. The mine explosion killed a military soldier and injured two other soldiers and a female civilian. Another source, Irrawaddy, reported that 3 military soldiers were killed and 2 other military soldiers were injured. Fatalities coded as 1 using the lowest estimate.
