On 5 September 2023, in Saw town (Saw township, Gangaw district, Magway region), the Myanmar military fired heavy weapons after clashing with the People's Defense Force - Gangaw District battalion 3 (coded separately). The heavy weapon shells fell into the town and injured five civilians, three of them were severe. 74-years-old and 19-years-old were severely injured and sent to Saw township hospital for treatment. Also, a man from Taung Kyaung monastery was also severely injured and sent to Gangaw township hospital for treatment.
