One person has been killed in a apparent drive-by shooting in Umhlanga. Another person, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was injured. Police are still investigating the motive for the shooting, but it is suspected to be a hit. One person has been killed and another injured in an apparent drive-by shooting in a popular KwaZulu-Natal tourist area. The attack happened on Monday night on Lighthouse Road in Umhlanga Rocks. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda said reports indicated that the motorist and his passenger were driving when another vehicle approached, before the occupants fired several shots at them. "The 38-year-old driver was certified dead at the scene, while his passenger was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds," he said. Medi Response spokesperson Kimberly Liell-Cock said paramedics had arrived on the scene to find the two victims with multiple gunshot wounds. "Medi Response paramedics worked to stabilise the surviving patient before he could be transported to a nearby facility," she added. According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the shooting took place around 20:30. The victims were driving in a silver BMW, and after they were shot at, the driver collided with a traffic light. According to RUSA, several high-calibre cartridges were found at the scene. Netshiunda added that the motive for the shooting was unknown at this stage and that police were searching for the gunmen.
