On 31 August 2023, in Chanayethazan township (Mandalay district, Mandalay region), a bomb explosion occurred at the Mandalay Region Health Department office located on the 70th road (between 27th and 28th streets) in Pat Kone Wun Kyin ward at around 1:30 pm. Following the explosion, unidentified armed men on a motorcycle hurled a bomb at Myanmar military troops who came to assess the situation. The bomb detonated near the entrance of the office and the mailroom, injuring five staff members including the Assistant Director. The Assistant Director sustained critical injuries and was taken to Mandalay General Hospital.
