On 31 August 2023, near Htee Hpoe Ka Loe village (Demoso township, Loikaw district, Kayah state), the Myanmar military launched airstrikes with two fighter jets on the Pun Chaung IDP camp located in eastern Demoso township at around 7 am. A male IDP in his 30s was killed, and two others sustained injuries. Three IDP tents and a school building were also damaged. The Karen Human Rights Group claimed that the military used cluster bombs during the airstrikes.
