On 18 August 2023, overnight, Al Shabaab threw a hand grenade targeting Jubaland police forces checkpoint at the Kismayo municipality at Alanley in Kismayo town (Kismaayo, Lower Juba). There were no fatalities. Two police officers were injured. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
