On 20 August 2023, in Hmaw Kyaung village (Palaw township, Myeik district, Tanintharyi region), the Myanmar military IB-285 based in Palaw town fired three artillery shells at 8:30 am without provocation. Two villagers were injured and motorcycles were damaged. The military claimed they conducted the attack because PDF members were stationed in the Let Ku and Hmaw Kyaung villages. Locals denied the claim made by the military.
