On 19 August 2023, in Hmaw Kyaung village (Palaw township, Myeik district, Tanintharyi region), the Myanmar military IB-285 based in Palaw town fired three artillery shells at 5:30 pm without provocation. The artillery shells fell into the village road and there were no casualties. The military claimed they conducted the attack because PDF members were stationed in the Let Ku and Hmaw Kyaung villages. Locals denied the claim made by the military.
