On 15 August 2023, in Kawkareik towns of Kawkareik district (Kawkareik district, Kayin state), heavy artillery shells fired by the Myanmar military troops injured three people, two from the town and one from Nan Ka Toe village at around 11 am. A 60-year-old man was seriously injured and taken to Hpa-An hospital.
