On 11 August 2023, an IED planted by Al Shabaab detonated, targeting a government officials convoy led by Jubaland deputy Minister for agriculture near Abdale Birole village (Kismaayo, Lower Juba). There were no fatalities. Two bodyguards, coded as Jubaland forces, were injured. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
