On 2 August 2023, Russian forces launched air strikes and shelled Ukrainian positions near Vuhledar, Donetsk region. According to Russian sources, on that day, up to 175 Ukrainian soldiers were killed near Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Makarivka, Staromaiorske and Urozhaine (175 fatalities split across 5 locations and coded as 35).
