Projectile event in Isle of WIght, Little London, Newport area, United Kingdom on Wed 2nd August 2023
2nd August 2023
An area of Little London in Newport has been cordoned off by Police this evening (Wednesday) following the discovery of a piece of historic ordnance. Officers are standing guard over what appears to be a shell that has been placed on the ground near Riverbank at Newport Harbour. An inner cordon has been established, as well as an outer cordon. As a result access to Little London has been restricted with all pedestrians and motorists being directed to the Sea Street end. Its unclear how and when the historic object from the war was found, but it is currently situated just feet away from the banks of the River Medina. Royal Navy Bomb Disposal experts from Portsmouth have been made away of the situation and are understood to be en-route to the Island. UPDATE Thursday Police have confirmed that they were called at 18:24 yesterday evening to a report of a suspected unexploded ordnance device at Blackhouse Quay.
