On 28 July 2023, Russian forces shelled and conducted air strikes on Ukrainian positions near Avdiivka, Donetsk. According to Russian sources, 120 Ukrainian soldiers were killed near Bilohorivka, Avdiivka, Pervomayske, Krasnohorivka, Vesele, Bohdanivka, Klischiivka, Dyliivka, and Novhorodske.
