On July 10, Nagaland Police arrested six persons including one National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) operative, for illegal transportation of ammunition from the Arms and Ammunition branch of the Police Central store in Chumoukedima District in Nagaland as revealed byCommissioner of Police Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie on July 25, reports The Morung Express. Police arrested two persons after intercepting a car in 6th Mile area of Chumoukedima and recovered large quantities of ammunition concealed in rice bags. Upon interrogation, the suspects revealed that they had picked up the consignments from the house of a woman who is the wife of a deceased NSCN-IM functionary. The woman however confessed that the consignments were picked up from one 'Deputy Kilonser’ (cabinet minister) of the NSCN-IM. The ‘Deputy Kilonser’admitted that he had bought arms from one Armed branch Inspector named Michael Yanthan of the Police department, who is the in-charge of the Arms and Ammunition branch of the Police Central store in Chumoukedima.A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to further investigate the matter.
