On 18 July 2023, in Hle Lan Ku village (Htantabin township, Taungoo district, Bago-East region), a 41-year-old woman and her 18-year-old son-in-law were killed after stepping on a landmine on a street near their house. Locals claimed that the military planted the landmine as they had been stationed in the village for several months before leaving on July 6, 2023. The entire villagers were displaced for months in fear of the military troops who were stationed in the village. The explosion occurred as villagers returned home after the military withdrew from the village.
