On 11 July 2023, Russian air forces and artillery struck near Makarivka, Donetsk. According to Russian sources, on that day, around 240 Ukrainian soldiers were killed near Staromaiorske, Vuhledar, Storozheve, Makarivka, Priyutne, Solodke, Robotyne, Luhivske and Marfopil (240 fatalities split across 9 locations and coded as 27).
