On 12 July 2023, a remote controlled IED planted by Al Shabaab detonated, targeting government police forces convoy consisting of the Police Deputy Commander of East Division in Mogadishu and his two bodyguards at the Waxaracade neighborhood in Mogadishu - Heliwa (Banadir). Al Shabaab claimed killing two police officers and injuring the deputy commander.
